our story

Paintology was started in 2012 by Callum MacDonald.

Callum left a career in professional photography and design to build something he couldn’t find anywhere else - a decorating business with genuine craft at it’s heart, and real care for the people behind the doors.

He had been learning the trade since he was young, but it was more than skill that drew him back to it.

Callum has Tourettes. Working with his hands - creating, finishing, making something beautiful out of nothing - quieted his mind in a way little else could. That connection between craft and calm is woven into everything Paintology does.

The idea was simple

Create a sanctuary for people at home. A space they were proud of, and at peace in - no matter the size of the project.

Not just decorating. Something more personal than that. A business built the old-fashioned way, in a world that moves too fast and cuts too many corners.

Word spread - not through expensive advertising, but through the experience of having Paintology in your home and seeing what was left behind.

Paintology has never expanded for expansion’s sake. The quality would suffer, and the quality is the point. It remains small by design, because a team of 50 could never replicate what this is.

I try to keep their minds open to wherever life takes them. But knowing I might be inspiring them to bring joy to others one day - that means everything.

That’s what Paintology is. Ambition, care, and a genuine desire to create something people love coming home to.
